Byodoin Temple 06
This series arose from reflecting on the nature of space-time, particularly in regard to humans being. In considering the act of perceiving an illusion there must be one moment of perception recording the first state of the illusion, and a second moment of perception comprehending the second state of the illusion.
My original intention with Acts of Perception was to contrast a moment before with a moment after, at the same time highlighting in some way that an act of perception had taken place. For the works 01-05 in the series this morphed into a photograph of a location and then the same photograph with a creative act of perception applied. I tried a number of moment before/moment after images before settling on what I'm calling the Rorschach approach. So this image is not one photograph mirrored but is two separate photographs slightly different, mirrored. This is like a Rorschach blot, where the two sides are not perfectly identical.
