Byodoin Temple 01
This series arose from reflecting on the nature of space-time, particularly in regard to humans being. In considering the act of perceiving an illusion there must be one moment of perception recording the first state of the illusion, and a second moment of perception comprehending the second state of the illusion.
There is a reason for the sudden explosion of colour and abstraction. Byodoin Temple is unique for a number of reasons. One of the reasons is the extraordinary interior of the temple, which has intensely pigmented paintings and structural decoration. It was while reflecting on this that I came to understand my long term admiration of Ukiyoe (translated this means 'the floating world', and is the term used to describe the golden era of Japanese woodblock prints).
