Fibonacci 01 - numbers 02, 03, 05

 

 

This series of images are based on photograph of a tree outside a temple in Yokohama Japan. The same photograph is then subject to increasing factors of rotational symmetry. The image above has a rotational symmetry factor of 2. The series is dedicated to Shigeru Sato, who introduced me to the software.

 


This one has a rotational factor of three. The series was purely experimental, and I was wanting to see what sort of patterns are generated as a result of the symmetry. I like the weird sort of dog face in the middle of this image, and the patterning of the branches.

 


The five fold symmetry is particularly exquisite in how it has preserved the leafy and woody character of the tree, presented in a structure that is purely mathematic, a pentagon. The details in the patterning of fine branches is very twig like.
