Data
visualisations
The
data visualisations exhibited in San Jose in August 2006 at ISEA/Zero One are
based on correlated cultural identification survey responses and images. The lexicon
used is given below. A sample visualisation (of singular cultural identity) is found
here. Basically a visual language has been constructed, and
used to generate still and moving images based on survey responses.
Initially
it was thought that the visualised material would use the collated overall statistical
data, e.g. the percentage of respondents indicating more than one cultural identification,
or the percentage responding that their identification came from friends rather
than family. However, the survey responses were very interesting in themselves
and it was decided to begin the visualisation process by mapping individual responses.
Consequently, the survey has accumulated a large amount of qualitative data regarding
cultural identification.
Some
survey questions related to country of origin and residence, age and gender have
been omitted from the chart below as this data will be examined at a later date.
The questions and responses for main cultural identification are given only, as
those indicating second cultural identification responded the same questions in
regard to their second identification. To go to the actual survey, click this

It
