john adams

used alcohol bottles and remade leis with projected image database, 2002

each bottle approximately 35cm high, projection 300cm high x 250cm wide

My MA project was called HC : N : CP - hybrid culture, nonlinearity and creative practice. The exhibition consisted of a cross of alchohol bottles with remade leis in them, a projected image database, a touch activated website displayed on a plasma screen, digital prints, a poem, an armchair upholstered in remade leis and a gilt frame of leis. The aim was to activate linear multiplicites (hence nonlinear), using my Pitcairn-Norfolk cultural background as narrative. For example, the cross of bottles and image database piece is called john adams, a predecessor who whilst blind drunk had a vision the archangel Michael threw a dart at him. It's a work about how we humans draw lines and meanings from experiences - we draw cosmology from the stars for example. The projected database utilises many images from NASA for which I'm thankful.
